The Department of Paediatrics at University College Hospital, Ibadan, was the first academic paediatrics department in Nigeria and West Africa. It runs sub-specialty units and weekly clinics including Neurology, Neonatology, Cardiology, Nephrology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology/Nutrition, Infectious Disease, Oncology and Asthma, plus a children's emergency ward and care for high-risk infants. The department's neurology team developed the Ibadan Simplified Developmental Screening chart for early recognition of developmental disabilities.
